Food for Thought

I caught this quote yesterday from Abdul Hakim-Shabazz at Indiana Barrister.

"Hoosiers are kind of funny about individuals running for one office, getting elected and then turning around and running for another office."

As Nelson Peters prepares to run for mayor after recently being elected county commisioner this question comes to relevance. Does it mean he would suffer in the mayoral primary? I don't know. It is a possibile but not likely.

What is more likely though is that it would end any further electoral ambition Peters may desire. Basically it would make him go the path of Paul Helmke (excluding his new position) and we all know how that turned out.

Can you explain what you mean in the last paragraph? Are you saying that Mayor of Fort Wayne is the end of the political path?

I think that people should NOT run for one office with the intent to not serve the term and immediately run for another office.

I rarely, if ever, vote for those people.

I think everyone would find it offensive to run for an elected office then turn around and seek another, this isnt new.
I would hope in the future you would not try to somehow link Paul Helmke and Nelson Peters.
Nelson Peters can stand on his own record, we should look at the upcoming election in that vein and not look to the past and Paul Helmke.

I don;t think hooiser are smart enough to know that a candiates is running for a different office. At least in allen county they are like sheep to the slaugther. Do do what everone else is doing or what ever they are told to do.

To Anonymous 9:11,
Is the mayoral position a deadend job? Not necessarily but more often than not , yes.

What I was referring to though was the alienation of voters outside the city limits would make it much more difficult to win a future campaign.

To Richard,
Voters have a quirk about them that make them not vote for people who appear to have too much political ambition no matter what their record is. Helmke had that problem.

It is a possibility that voters will look at Nelson in the same light having just won a highly visible position.

I don;t (don’t) think hooiser (Hoosiers) are smart enough to know that a candidates (candidate) is running for a different office. At least in allen (Allen) county they are like sheep (led) to the slaugther (slaughter) . Do do (Do) what everone (everyone) else is doing or what ever (whatever) they are told to do.

Clearly we Hoosiers are not smart enough.
