There is no Down Time

The 2006 General election was only a few days ago. Yet there are now two candidates ready to do battle for their party in the next primary. As expected Matt Kelty formally announced his candidacy for FW mayor on Wednesday. Next Thursday Nelson Peters will do the same.

I gotta feeling this may get ugly for the Republican party. Stay tuned as this story progresses.

Why do you think it will get ugly? I am very curious...

My perception is that many of the "Establishment" Republicans will back Nelson Peters and that Matt Kelty will get strong grassroots support.

I kind of think that Nelson Peters will come across as a typical large government Republican and that Matt Kelty will come across as a small government Republican.

It will get ugly because neither will step aside for the other in the primary. This could look like the Squadrito-Buskirk debacle in 1999.

Lawrenceite,
I would think Abdul Hakim-Shabazz at Indiana Barrister would have better knowledge of any race that close to Indy.

Had Joe won the Squadrito-Buskirk primary, he likely would have become mayor. So perhaps a Peters - Kelty 'dabacle' in 2007 will be a good thing.

Dean Jessup is a Democrat candidate for Mayor City of Lawrence. Cantwell is losing support because of the proposed selling of th city's water. She has isolated herself from most other democrats including members of the Common Council as well as most city voters. Watch for a Jessup ground swell over the next few week.
