Souder/ Hayhurst Debate poll
WANE-TV hosted a debate between Souder and Hayhurst last night. If you didn't see it and want to do so then click Here .
I want to hear what everybody thought about that debate. A webpoll has been created and will be here until Monday.

I am not sure that there was a winner in the debate to be honest with you.
There were times when I thought Hayhurst was winning and there were times I thought Souder was winning.
I would call it a tie.
I think you will find that those who blindly follow Souder think he won and those who blindly follow Hayhurst will believe he won...
The important thing is what do the people in the middle think?
Mike Sylvester
P.S. Has ANYONE ever seen anyone run a more negative campaign then Mark Souder has conducted this year
I think it odd that Mark Souder seems to pound away on "amnesty"...yet he has voted for amnesty 5 times.
I think it's pretty sad that after 12 years in congress all Souder has to run on is the fear of Pelosi. It was especially sad to watch a man who advertises that he stands for smaller government tout the small amount of pork he's brought to the area. It is plainly obvious that the national republican party has abandoned every principle that brought them to power in 1994.
I think it has become increasingly apparent that the democrats will retake the house, so our choice boils down to being represented by a minority party congressman, who has proved himself to be ineffective at best when his party was in control, or Hayhurst.
The answer to Mike's question is NO.
Hayhurst showed he needs a little more seasoning.
Tom Hayhurst is focused on issues that can make adifference in people's life, like health care and jobs. Mark Souder has done nothing to help the middle class and much to make things worse. Is there any wonder why he isbetter financed?
T. Eldon Hayhurst identifies issues but has no specifics on what he would do.
Fuzzy, fuzzy, fuzzy.
He's no Jill Long.
Don't you find it ironic that Hayhurst got rich from being a doctor and then talks about affordable health care?
One of the questions was riddiculous. Why is ascertaining from the candidates their take on Bible being the absolute word of God necessary for voters to makeup their minds about a candidate? Asking them how their religous beliefs factors into their political decision making should be more acceptable.
Mark Mellinger seemed to go onto an unbelieveable limb in crafting that one. It is completely asinine and possibly offensive to non-christian voters to take such an audacious stance. It seemed like a planned opening for Mr. Souder to spout on about his religous viewpoints. Mr. Mellinger should be ashamed for crafting such a charged question. Debates should stimulate discourse, not score points for one individual over another.
Oh, I would say Mark Souder is better financed going into the last week.
Beside that, didn't you notice, Blessing, that Souder had more cash on hand at the end of the last reporting period?
Are you Hayhurst people on Mars or something?
Souder is going to win. Taviano is a drag on the ticket. Love is unloved by the voters. It might by Oh Happy Day for Demos around the country on election night but it is shaping up to be a disaster for Kevin Knuth and the Allen County Democrats.
I saw Souder's fundraising numbers and its just another example of Souder abandoning his promises. In a previous race Souder said he's never take more than 1/3 of his money from outside the area, well look at it pour in from DC. Souder used to be a principled conservative, but now he's no different from the rest of the big government, borrow and spend "conservatives".
Hayhurst probably won't win, but no democrat has any business being competive in this district. The fact is that Hayhurst has raised most of his money from folks around here, unlike Mark Souder.
Was anyone else confused about Souder's righteous indignation at being questioned about his vow to only serve six terms in Congress? He acted as if he never said it. Perhaps this is true. Maybe he never SAID it, but he did sign the so-called conract with America, and one of the points in the contract was a vow not to serve more than six terms.
Do you think it is time for Knuth to pack it in and get someone in there with a little more gravitas?
Why does Knuth keep whining about trivial matters and telling half truths. You'd think he'd be touting his candidates' positions. Perhaps it's because he knows the liberal way, isn't the main stream american way.
anon,
"isn't the main stream american way"
