Councilman Glynn Hines Endorses Paddock

Geoff Paddock has been endorsed by Fort Wayne City Councilman Glyn Hines. This is potentially just as important as GiaQuinta's endorsement by Mayor Graham Richard.

Hines is the only minority on the city council. His district consists of the southeast side of the city. He is a well respected member of the African-American community. The endorsement could cause a sizable shift in the race for the 80th state house seat. Only an endorsement by Reverend Michael Latham could cause a larger shift from the African-American community.

Something worth watching because of the recent endorsements is what happens to the unity of the Democratic party. It is unusual for Democratic incumbents to make endorsements to candidates in the primary.

Reverend Michael Latham praised 80th District Republican Kevin Howell at the march and rally Tuesday.

Republican County Councilman Michael Cunegin was part of the program and was also praised by Reverend Latham.

Democratic candidate Phil GiaQuinta participated in the march and was given an opportunity to speak at the rally.

BTW - I think it is an error to suggest that African-American voters are subject to sizeable shifts from the endorsement of one or two key figures.

Voters are voters. The usual rules apply.

The usual rules for the effect of an endorsement, in my opinion, are these:

Any one endorsement tends to have more of an effect in conferring credibility and legitimacy on a candidate in the early stages of a campaign.

In latter stages it might be able to create an aura of forward momentum or it might work to stall or reverse downward momentum.

While I agree that the Hines endorsement is HUGE for Paddock, I disagree about Mike Latham.

Many in the African American community are concerned about his strong ties to the GOP.

What has their blind loyalty to the Dems. gotten them in the last fifty years?

Catalan,
You're kidding, right? Did you somehow miss the entire civil rights movement?
