The Lowdown: Democratic Sheriff

Here is what will determine this race on May 2.

Were Mike Joyner's grassroots effort strong enough to overcome the aggressive campaign of Taviano?

Can Taviano neutralize Joyner's visibility as a spokesman for the FW police department?

How much will Taviano's alternative lifestyle affect voter's decisions?

Campaign summary
Taviano has had a more visible campaign while the Joyner campaign relied more on its neighborhood grassroots program.

Reader poll results:
Joyner 58%
Roach 22%
Taviano 20%
119 votes cast

Final Thoughts
My early prediction was that Joyner would win. Taviano has worked hard enough for me to reconsider that prediction. I have seen poll results (legitimate polls) that go either way. With such conflicting results I can't decide who will win the primary. I'm calling this one a toss up.

Taviano in a landslide.

I would be curious where you saw a poll on this?

Oh, IP - I think you are dead wrong on this one. I question what "legitimate polls" have been run on this race (as I seriously doubt that someone has spent the thousands necessary to poll this race "legitimately"). Taviano's warchest was larger than any other candidate - even Republicans, and her campaign has been visible and well organized. I would doubt that they'll let this Primary slide. Taviano wins with more than 60%.

I'm betting on Joyner

Taviano may have worked hard, but her people skills leave much to be desired.

I am constantly amazed at the number of annonymous commenters with an opinion. Are you wanted in another state? Afraid of your boss? Unsure of your position? Just curious. . .

John, I'm not surprised about the multitude of anonymous commenters. I welcome their comments as long as what they say is genuine. After all, I too am anonymous.

If she wins the Primary, she loses the General Election. This area is too conservative to install a Sheriff with an alternative life style. I'm curious, what happens to Taviano's war chest if she loses? I bet it goes to the Republican canidate...Anyone care to wager? My vote is for Joyner.

People are tired of the same old same old in the sheriff's department. Why can't the city and county law enforcement work together better? Why can't the 911 centers merge? We are tired that the answer is either "we're not set up that way" or "I won't be in charge." We need better and it's time for a change. Taviano is the most qualified candidate, has been raising more money and working harder than any other candidate, has been talking with voters and is the best choice. Taviano wins.

I heard her on WOWO the other day and about choked on my breakfest when she described herself as a "life long" Democrat. Come on Tina, who's kidding who here? I have worked with the Democratic party for 46 of my 64 years of life and I never once heard of or seen you support our party. Kevin you have shamed us terribly by supporting this one.

My response to Anonymous-

If you feel I have shamed the Party, please contact me directly- no need to hide your name from me.

Let's talk.

Anonymous, *I* have been a lifelong Democrat for my 42 years, and I'll wager a guess that you never heard of me before this year either. You can't always base one's loyalties on their visibilty; there are many levels of support.

Let's be honest, folks. Taviano didn't think she could beat Fries in the Primary. Hence, she moved over to the Democrats. Aside from her alternative lifestyle, her people skills leave much to be desired.
