Softball Prediction for 2006

Its not a matter of whether Stacey Lopshire will beat Pat Love in the fall. The question is a matter of by how much will she beat her.

Only a handful of Democrats are not willing to face the inevitable that they will lose the only county-wide seat they control. But there are serious questions about her competency as county assessor. Here are the issues that plague her.

  1. Failed to pass a Level II certification on multiple attempts
  2. She was assessor during the county-wide reassessment debacle
  3. Inappropriate use of city/county premises for announcing her campaign
  4. Questioning her opponent's qualifications due to her relationship with the previous assessor when she retained her opponent's employment from that administration

Pat Love didn't win her last election. Mike Ternet lost it. Now that Pat herself has high negatives look for her to lose at least 5% of her base. Lopshire wins with at least 65% of the vote.

Or, another way of looking at it:

1. you do not need an ASSESOR II certification to be the County Assessor. The previous Republican did not even have his level 1.

2.There was no debacle. One Fort Wayne Newspaper called the job her office did a "textbook" reassesment. And that is a good thing.

3. Innapropriate use of the city council chambers? No one has mentioned it outside the blogger world- so it is not really news. Oh, and Steve Shines law partner, who is in charge of the County's Ethics Commission- said it was not a violation. And how about those judges that used the courhouse to announce their run 2 years ago??

4. There are differences in being TECHNICALLY good, and having managerial skills.

I like Stacey, but I think you are underestimating the power of incumbency.

Looks like Kevin Knuth has decided not to use his real name anymore.

If the Assessor test doesn't mean very much, why does she keep taking it?

Wake up. She isn't running against the former incumbent. She is running against someone who is able to pass the test.

The issue has become - not the assessor test - but her basic smarts as compared to her opponent.

Lopshire will lose no Republican votes as did Ternet. She will gain votes from Democrats who do not think Love is qualified.

Case closed. End of story. Indiana Pundit is right. This race is a done deal.

Pundit didn't even remind people how Love had to buy some real estate just to run the first time.

Kevin, you can't save Love. But go ahead and waste your limited resources.

The only hope for Democrats is finding some decent folks to run for Commissioner.

But Kevin, you will probably blow that just in the types of people you are trying to recruit.

1. Persception, perception, perception, perception.

Facts don't decide elections as much as the perceived facts. We live in a world where people make decisions based on imcomplete and flawed knowledge. They also make decisions based on bias and vendetta.

Is it fair to Pat Love? No. Some of the reasons people will vote against her were never in her control. But their is no fairness in love, war, and politics. Mike Ternet knows all about this.

Pat has not shown the charisma needed to overcome these perceptions.

2. Being credited by the newspaper doesn't hold a lot of weight.

3. Just because the media didn't pick it up doesn't mean that it hasn't been a topic at the watercooler.

4. I'll give you that point

5. I think you overestimate the incumbancy factor in this race. The historical strentgh of the GOP in countywide in addtion to previously mentioned factors will overwhelm the incumbancy factor.

I can attest to that...Knuth definitely uses his real name, even when he says things that are moronic.

Hey, I resemble that remark!

If Love were truthful, she acknowledge that she has flunked the Level Test II NINE times.

Pat Love is clearly a positive leader and an ethical adult women and who is in fact the best choice regardless of politics. Pat Love has in fact demonstrated day to day consistent ethical leadership so why would Allen County voters want to get involved again with Stacey Lopshire, who as Chief Deputy Assessor under Mike Ternay, was aware and involved in numerous scandels and poor management of tax payers resources.

Wake up Allen County! The Level II certification is NOT relevant or meaningful in this leadership position. Good leaders have good and ethical certified people working for them.

Don't go backwards.
