Dirty Politics vs Going Negative

When most people hear the terms dirty politics and negative campaigning they assume it is the same thing.

Negative campaigning is where a candidate criticizes the opponent on qualifications for the job, performance on that job, personal ethics, or their stance on issues. It must have direct correlation to the candidate and the position for which they are campaigning.

Dirty politics takes things to personal level. Invlolves critizing the candidate's family, creating rumors and presenting them as fact (lying), using intimidation tactics on the opponents supporters, and vandalism/ theft of their opponent's campaign material.

Usually this is more rampant near the end of a general election. However, due to several heated primaries there are those who are losing their heads and compromising themselves and the candidates they represent.

Dirty politics does not belong in Allen County politics. I have reports from credible individuals not associated with any campaigns who have been witness to all of the above dirty political tactics. I myself have seen some of it. It appears to be escalating beyond the norm.

This is the only warning to all campaigns. STOP. Should we at the IP observe a continued escalation of this kind of behavior by campaigns the names of those campaigns continuing to use dirty (not negative) campaign tactics will be exposed. We will not discern between the supporter acting alone or official actions of a campaign.

PS: Some forms of dirty politics are actually illegal.

It is a federal crime to remove or vandalize campaign signs. Hundreds of Marla Irving's signs have been lost and stolen. What is going on here? This is criminal activity, hopefully not sponsored by the Brown campaign.

Could you kindly cite rel-life examples of negative campaigning? I don't know of which you are referring - at least in this election cycle.

The Irving-Brown shenanigans are new to me as well.

Perhaps sheeding light on these issues will shame the "guilty" into stopping...?

I have seen both Tina Taviano and Tom Hayhurst signs that are being ripped from their spots. I know that this was not "just the wind" as many have alluded to. The signs are just gone - there is absolutely no evidence of mangled sinage anywhere around where they used to be.

I also have seen the "missing" signs for Taviano out here in the Aboite area. My OWN yard sign was taken on the first night it was in my yard. I have more.
The West Jefferson corridor has suffered quite a bit of missing signage as well.
I respect everyone's right to their own decision. I guess others do not share that respect. Shame on them.

I know that this comment will be deleted, call it a test. . .I sent Pundit some pics of Taviano's campaign signs a week ago, no review of said signs has occurred.
Apparently favoritism is rampant here. I've also had a prior comment deleted. Duly noted. . .

I put my review out every Monday or Tuesday depending on my schedule. They get done in the order I received them. I am not playing favoritism. There are just a lot of signs to review. For your information Taviano is in this week's reviews.

I pleasantly stand corrected and am glad that is not the case.
